Hailing from #Cartago, #Colombia, @pastrychefjuan Gutiérrez dreamed of cooking and baking professionally from a young age. Though his family encouraged him to pursue a career as a doctor, he decided to study culinary arts, relocating to #Chicago to attend the prestigious French Pastry School when he was 19 years old. . . . At age 24, Gutiérrez acquired the title of executive pastry chef at Longman & Eagle and one of his defining career moments occurred less than a year later when he was nominated for a prestigious Jean Banchet Award for Rising Star Pastry Chef of the Year. Prior to joining the team at @fschicago and Adorn Bar & Restaurant in summer 2021, Gutierrez led the pastry kitchen at Virgin Hotels Chicago. . . As viewers watched "School of Chocolate" on Netflix, the fantasy chocolate sculptures of Amaury Guichon wowed without question. Juan Gutiérrez, one of the eight pastry chefs competing for the title, sought to impress the world-renowned chocolatier. Through a series of difficult challenges, Gutiérrez put all of his pastry and chocolate knowledge to the test.
