The famous White Cliffs Of Dover of song are actually no longer truly white having long since given way to the grunge from so much shipping coming in and out of the port. The real white cliffs are in Sussex, my part of the world. They stretch from Black Rock, just east of central Brighton, all the way to Eastbourne around 21 miles. There are several dips at various points along the way such as Newhaven Harbor, the Cuckmere Estuary and Birling Gap. There is an “undercliff walk” just after Brighton that meanders past the Marina, and the villages of Saltdean, Rottingdean, Peacehaven, and Seaford. The cliffs include a hilly stretch known as the Seven Sisters but the highest parts of the cliffs are closer to Eastbourne and include the famous “Beachy Head” cliffs where too many folks have ended it all by jumping off. Here is a tiny sampling of the many many photos I have taken there over the years, just fresh out of Photoshop in the last two days. I am still enjoying finding unpublished files in folders from previous years. Most of these were from hikes with family members in 2011.
