Pelicans in the Carson Valley to the east of the Sierras ... yes, it's at least a couple hundred miles to the nearest seacoast (and that's if you go the way the crow flies!) but these pelicans are nesting in this shallow sump in a rancher's field.

Pine Nut mountains to the east, the Sierras to the west ... the view across the Carson Valley down the long straight stretch of calle Hermosa reaches the mountains either way I go.

Took a group of Seniors on a tour of Apple Hill (near Placerville CA) last week. The weather was great, fall colours were on display, and we found lots of delicious apples, nuts, olives, pies, and other goodies at the orchards.
