Clean Out Your Cabinets

One myth that I am going to work my hardest to bust is about the difficulty of healthy eating!
The hardest part is giving up greasy, sugar filled, processed foods. It took my forever to not want to get a burger or pick up cookies from the store. However, once you start looking at labels for which breads don't have enriched bleached flour or what brand of yogurt has the most protein it gets really addictive.
There is one basic step that I am going to focus on this entry and that is cleaning out your home of foods that do not have any nutritional value whatsoever. Your cabinets do not need to be full of chips, candy, soda, etc. Those kinds of foods are treats! Keeping them around your home is just a huge temptation.
For me, my craving is hot chocolate. I love it, and think it is the most amazing invention every thought of by mankind. However, I do not keep big tins of mix in my home. If I really want some I have to physically get up, drive to a coffee shop, wait in line, pay for it, and finally enjoy it. Before you can work on improving the foods that you need to survive you have to learn to regulate your intake of foods that are not necessary.
Some people say that my methods of keeping junk food out of my home is "denying" myself. I really DO NOT think so. It used to be that if I was hungry I would walk in to the kitchen grab a bag of chips, plop myself on the couch and chow down. Now if I am really hungry I will go in to the kitchen and have a fridge full of healthy and nutrient rich foods to chose from such as carrots, pita bead with hummus, yogurt, cheese sticks, apples, and the likes.
I never deny myself treats, I just make the process much more difficult and I careful moderate how much I consume. I truly believe that it makes the "bad" food that much more enjoyable as well. Instead of being able to walk over to your freezer and pull out a tub of ice cream it is special time to go to an ice cream shop and pick out a cone! It could be a fun date or a trip with your friends.
Of course there has to be regulation to this as well. You cannot go through the drive through three times a day and use the excuse that it was not in your kitchen.
In the United States of America two thirds of our  population is overweight. My life dream is to help change that staggering statistic. So that is step #1 to the new you. Clear out your home of foods that are not going to benefit your body.
