50 Year Old Bornean Orangutan - Meet Duchess
This is just too cool! Duchess was orphaned as a baby in a forest in Borneo. She was brought to the zoo in Phoenix, AZ in 1962. It was at this point that she was determined to be approxiamately 2 years old. She has lived her life at the Phoenix zoo, and at the age of 50 is now the oldest Bornean Orangutan living in North America!
She has given birth to seven babies in her lifetime, of which four are still alive and living in zoos across the country. One of her daughters lives with her in the Phoenix Zoo, as well as one of her six granchildren.
