US Strong

I was listening to coverage of the Oklahoma Tornado on BBC World Service yesterday and was struck by some of the comments made by the journalists. They noted that after one day the people of Oklahoma were already clearing debris, using cherry pickers to fix or pull down power lines or strengthening damaged property. The journalist complimented the way that American people can simply get on with a task quickly and easily.
We’ve seen many disasters of the last few months and years and the term Jersey Strong or Boston Strong have become like banners for us to all get behind and support each other with. There’s an amazing bond between the people of the US that transcends race, religion, sex and creed.
It seems that we simply should use US strong because the true strength lies in the people of the US, the way we all band together and help each other in the hour of need. As an Englishman who has lived in the US for 17 years I am proud to be associated with this great country and amazing people. I am humbled by the generosity of strangers and the ability to co-ordinate, help and rebuild without any desire for profit.
Stay strong USA!
