Two years in Japan and one in Germany drops me off abruptly in the Metro DC area. "Home" is more foreign than the foreign lands I've been traveling through. Somethings are familiar and I'm thrilled to be driving a Jeep and enjoying American steak and East Coast seafood but it's amazing how big everything is here.
Grocery stores are an aerobic work out.
Too many television channels to choose a program.
So many choices about everything!
Even in small towns and quiet moments reintegrating is a little overwhelming. The culture shock living abroad is anticipated but the shock of coming home is jolting as I realize how much I no longer know.
