One of the most unexplored and unused cooking devices in the kitchen would have to be the crockpot. These crockpots are also referred to as slow cookers. Did you know that the crockpots are one of the best time saving appliances found in your own kitchen?

What’s more is that if you are just learning how to cook, the crockpot is the best appliance to help you since what you basically do when using one is to just fill it with your ingredients and turn it on to start cooking! However, do not think that crockpot recipes are just those same old stews, now, people have innovated more and more delicious recipes from appetizers, to entrees, to desserts, and a whole lot more.

Time Saving!

If you are a busy person and do not have much time for cooking, you can opt to prepare the ingredients ahead of time. You can do the chopping, mixing, cutting, slicing, freezing, and basically setting up the whole menu before the actual cooking. These basic ingredients that you prepared ahead of time may be utilized for several different dishes. You can just stock these in the fridge and by the time you will use them, you can just take them out. It is just a matter of putting all the ingredients together in your crockpot.

There is Room for Creativity!

Remember that your cooking depends on your creativity and imagination. Do not be afraid to explore and experiment on your cooking. You can spend some time planning menus that you and your family love. Think about those dishes that they always request, or perhaps the ingredients that they cannot get enough of. I am sure that if you try to prepare a dish along those foods, you will be able to prepare one that your family will absolutely love. With the crockpot, you will be able to cook a wide range of foods whether it is chicken stew, beef stew, lasagna, or even a rotisserie chicken! There are numerous recipes that you can do using crockpot. Not only can you prepare a dish that is easy to cook, it is affordable as well. Thanks to the crockpot, you can set up a menu on your own without any difficulty. In the long run, you will be able to save up a substantial amount of money since you will surely lessen the times you eat out with your family and friends... Why eat out when you can prepare and cook the same types of foods that are also delicious?

Before you start using your crockpot, here are some tips for cooking that would surely help:

Remember to only fill the crockpot until it is one half to two thirds full. If ever you fill it to the brim, there will be a possibility that the ingredients will not be cooked properly. However, when the ingredients are below one half or two thirds level, the food will be cooked too fast than what is recommended.

Keep in mind that the food that is cooked on the bottom of the crockpot cook faster and will have more moisture since they are submerged in simmering liquid.

It is recommended to remove the skin from poultry such as chicken and turkey, and to take out the excess fat from the meats. Know that the fats will melt when cooked for a long time and will give out a bad texture that might ruin your finished product. Another thing about foods with high fat content is that they cook too quickly.

If you want to thicken the juices and concentrate the flavors, you can do that by taking the lid off and turning the heat to high during the last half hour of the cooking time.

Remember that most of the meats need 8 hours of cooking when using low heat. However, if you can find cheaper slices of meat, they cook better when using the crockpot. Not only will you save on time. You will also save money! The cheaper slices of meat cook better since they have less fat. This characteristic thus makes it more ideal to use when using the crockpot.

Do read the layering instructions judiciously. Different kinds of ingredients have different cooking times. For example, the vegetables do not cook as quickly as the meat. From this, they should be placed at the bottom of the crockpot.

When cooking using the low heat setting, do not lift the lid of the crockpot to stir. Note that each time that you take off the lid; heat will be able to escape. Because of this, your cooking time will be added and extended by about 20 minutes up to half an hour. If you wish to check how your cooking is, spin the cover first until the condensation subsides. That way, you would be able to see the inside of the crockpot.

My Beef Stroganoff Crockpot RecipeIngredients Needed:

  • Extra virgin olive oil
  • Salt
  • Garlic pepper
  • 2 pounds of sirloin tips
  • Unseasoned meat tenderizer
  • Steak seasoning
  • 2 tablespoons of onions (minced)
  • Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 can of mushrooms (sliced and drained)
  • 1 can of mushroom soup
  • 4 tablespoons of sour cream
  • 2 tablespoons of water
  • 2 tablespoons of cornstarch
  • 2 soup cans of water (you can also use 1 soup can of beef stock and 1 soup can of water

Method:

  1. First, take out a bowl and place the beef.
  2. Drizzle it with olive oil.
  3. Add in seasoning to the meat to taste.
  4. Then, place it in the crockpot (slow cooker).
  5. Add in the mushrooms, soup, onions, and the water or beef stock.
  6. After that, cook it on low heat setting for approximately 6 to 8 hours.
  7. However, if you are using frozen meat, just leave it that way. Do not worry, it will be nice, brown, and tender in no time.
  8. All you have to do is to lessen the water you add.
  9. Then, before serving, transfer the beef mixture as well as the sauce to a stove pot and bring it to a low boil.
  10. Meanwhile, mix together the cornstarch and 2 tablespoons of water and add it into the beef pot to make a thick gravy sauce.
  11. Take the pot out of the heat and mix in sour cream.
  12. Here, I served it with rice.
  13. You can also choose to serve it with some pasta.
