Why did the Chicken cross the road?

I don’t know what is happening around here.  Let me explain…  At the beginning of summer, I found a puppy on a busy street, almost getting run over.  I pulled over, saved him and kept him.  I named him Bob.

Just a few weeks later, I went into the backyard to move my sprinkler.  There was a little baby turtle getting a drink!  I don’t have a pet turtle.  It is much smaller than the one that visited me last summer!  So this is a new one!  Ha!

Last week, I woke up to discover I had a big chicken in the backyard!  How in the world?  Why my yard?  The hen was on top of the sandbox lid, surrounded by two dogs and a cat. I quickly put all the animals in the house so the bird wouldn’t get hurt, and waited for it to leave.  But it didn’t.  It scratched all around the yard, and found the dog water to drink.  I tried to feed it some bread, but she spit it out.  Haha!

She kept coming to the back door!  With the dogs and kitties locked inside, I went from door to door in my neighborhood asking people if they had “Lost their Chicken?”  They all laughed at me.  Seriously, I bet they have never been asked that question before.  They probably thought I had lost my mind!

However, I did find one man that told me of a nearby home that had a bunch of chickens, so I went there.  They didn’t laugh at me.  I had my camera with me so I could show the family what the chicken looked like.  But it wasn’t theirs.  I kinda begged them to come take her home with them so my life could get back to normal.  They agreed!  Yay!  She went to live with twenty other chickens (much to the dismay of the children)!  They hoped I would keep her.

Now this morning, I was playing on the computer (as always), when I heard a terrible screech from the dining room.  I raced in to hear the flutter of wings flapping.  Sure enough, perched on top of the hutch was a bird!  A scrub jay!  I thought, now what?  I called my hubby and he said to open the French doors and wait.

I went to grab my camera and when I got back it wasn’t there! I wondered if one of my cats grabbed it…  Nope!   It had moved to the toy shelf, closer to the open door!   The plan was working!  Not two seconds after I snapped this picture, he gracefully flew out the door!

With all the ashes I found all around the hearth, I can only guess it came thru the chimney!  Around here, it has been one surprise after the next.  So why did the chicken (and the puppy, the turtle and the scrub jay) cross the road?  To get their pictures taken!  Haha!
