#Little #Lost #Puppy!
I was driving recently down a very busy Boulevard. Suddenly the cars in front of me were screeching their brakes and swerving all over the road. Cars behind didn't understand what was going on in front of them. A few honks later, I saw the problem. A little panicked puppy was right smack in front of he cars, running this way and that. I was terrified for him!
The way the traffic was zig-zagged across the road, I was able to crawl ahead of them by slowly using the bike lane. I turned into the nearest apartment drive-way and lept out of my car. The puppy was still in the road, dashing around as the engine noises were scaring him more. I was so afraid I was going to witness his death, but I crouched down and called to him. "Puppy, come here, puppy!" He heard me!
Full speed, he ran about 100 feet towards me, as if he knew me all his life. I wondered if he would let me pick him up. Just as I was reaching for him a big truck rumbled by, and he took off again. Thank goodness he didn't veer toward the road, but into the apartment complex, just for a moment. And once the truck had passed he came right back to me.
Of course I scooped him up and put him in my car. That is when my plan was accomplished. I had saved the puppy from being killed. But now what? I didn't have a plan for the future. My daughter mentioned that he might be micro-chipped, so after he and I had calmed down a bit, I took him to the nearest vet, to see. But by this time, I was really liking him. As the technician scanned his tiny body, she did discover a chip. My heart dropped. I was hoping to keep him.
She called the number, and they said they didn't have a dog. Hmmm. Mysterious. But then, I was glad and secretly hoping my husband would be open to keeping him. I nic-named him Bob, and wrote my hubby an email with a pic attached.
My hubby was home before I was, and when I came in holding Bob, Michael was so excited to hold him! Yay! But then he started talking about posting a "found ad," and i got teary eyed. I know, I know. I told Michael I would look to see if anyone posted a "Lost ad," and I did. I looked and looked for a doggy matching Bob's description. I only found one. It was from about 20 miles away, and lost on Thursday, and I felt safe. I found Bob on a Wednesday.
Why did I want to keep Bob? Well, he was awful thin with his bones showing. He had cuts and scrapes on his frail body. He was missing a toenail and had no collar. He obviously wasn't being taken care of.
I have had Bob for four weeks! He makes me smile. He bounces, fetches and walks on his hind legs. He has learned to use the doggy door, never gets into anything he shouldn't. He tries to make friends with the other animals and has been pretty successful!
My new friend Bob is a keeper.
