Buffalo Wings N' Things

Places are not always what they seem. The first look deceives many but it is the snooping of the few which makes us see what has been carefully hidden. The Ortigas Home Depot area is known for basically three things: appliances and other stuff you need for your home (hence, the name Home Depot), the dampa, and of course, the drinking places. This is certainly one area you wouldn’t expect to find scrumptious and delectable food which you’ll enjoy without ingesting alcohol into your system. We were wrong.

Amid the neon lights and bar music of the several drinking places in the Home Depot, we found this resto called Buffalo Wings N’ Things. Buffalo wings (or hot wings) is more of a comfort food recipe. Most restaurants put Buffalo wings in the starters of their menus. They’re basically chicken wings fried without breading and coated with a Cayenne pepper hot sauce and butter sauce, and served traditionally with a dressing. There are relatively a few restos here in the Metro which boast their buffalo wings as the highlight and central theme and offering of their resto as compared to those in the United States especially in and around Buffalo, New York where the name of this mouth-watering recipe came from.

Buffalo Wings N’ Things is your simple and no frills food joint. The place is casual and very straightforward. The whole point really is for you is to sit and make yourself comfortable, get your order, and then get your hands on those wings and enjoy it. It’s a nice place to dine out and catch up with friends. Also, kids love chicken wings and this is one place they’ll surely enjoy. The only forewarning we have is for you not to bring them there at night when Ortigas Home Depot becomes vice city all over.

The star of the menu is, of course, their Buffalo Champion Wings along with their signature sauces. That’s the buffalo in this resto’s moniker. The ‘things’ are basically the other stuff to complement your wings such as fries, burritos, quesadilla, hotdogs and nachos. They also serve mini-burgers too. We ordered ½ pound (about 6-8 wings) of their Champion Buffalo Wings (P129) and their Fish N’ Chips (P199). We chose the Firehouse classic for our wing’s sauce and the Buffalo Ranch for our dressing. The question now is whether Buffalo Wings N’ Things did justice to this favorite comfort food?

The answer is a reverberating yes! When you get your first bite of it, you immediately get a hint of the ‘wing’ flavor and the kick of the spice. The sauce is delightfully hot and is not one of those sauces that other restos serve that is salty or too strong to a point you can’t differentiate Buffalo wings and BBQ wings. The dressing is great, too, and dipping the wings to it balances out the spiciness of the wings with a pinch of sweetness of the dressing. It’s a satisfying fusion that makes you wanna crave more.
The Fish N’ Chips is just right. It’s somewhere there between a wow and a dull. The saltiness of the Fish N’ Chips is just right. The key really to this genuinely English recipe is the freshness of the fish. The superb Fish and Chips should be as fresh as if they came, right off the boat. That is what is lacking in this. The dressing is great and if the fish was a bit more fresh, this would turn out to be a wow.

Overall, Buffalo Wings N’ Things is a great place for you to enjoy comfort food. It’s a must for all those wings lovers out there. Here, you get great tasting buffalo wings at an affordable price. It’s great value for your money. It would be really great if Buffalo Wings N’ Things would open up in places more accessible to the general public and also in places that are kids-friendly.
