Feather Christmas Trees

This holiday season must have decoration is feather Christmas trees. There's plenty to love about these feathery trees, but the best is that it is so simple you'll want to make one for every room in your house!

You'll need:
- Feathers (long, medium, and short lengths)
- Hot Glue and Glue sticks or just Glue
- Styrofoam Cone (whatever size you wish)
- Popsicle stick
- Wood skewer (this is only needed if your cone does not have a pointy end)
-Wire cutter or pruning shears

1. Sort the feathers into long, medium, and short piles.

2. Starting with the long feathers, place about a 1 inch line of glue along the quill. Careful, don't burn yourself!

3. Start attaching each feather beginning at the bottom of the Styrofoam cone. So that you don't burn or get your fingers sticky, use the popsicle stick to hold the feather in place as the glue really sticks.
Tip: Hot glue will get this project done faster as it dries faster.

4. Continue gluing the long feathers around the bottom of the cone making sure the bottom of the feathers line up. Place the next row of long feathers about 1 in above the first row (for a 12 in cone). Continue adding rows until you've covered about 1/3 of the cone.

5. Repeat by covering the center third with the medium length feathers and the top third with the short feathers.

6. If your cone does not have a a pointy top or you want a little more height to your tree, place the wood skewer about 3 inches into the top part of your cone. Continue adding feathers to the skewer to an inch above where the skewer meets the cone.
7. Before placing the last feathers clip of the skewer with the wire cutters. Place the last feathers lining up the quills to make a point. And your tree is done!

If you would like to add a star to the top you'll need:
-scissors
-vellum paper
-double sided tape
-star template
-glue or spray adhesive
-glitter
1. Cut a 3 in. vellum circle and then cut it in half. Curl one half into a cone and secure with double sided tape.
2. Cut 3 in vellum squares and fold to make 3 8-pointed stars using the star template instructions.
3. Glue the 3 stars to the cone. Spray the top with glue adhesive and cover with glitter. Shake off the access and place at the top of your tree.

These trees are really beautiful and add a special touch to any room. They also make great gifts to anyone form your children's teachers or the boss or even the neighbors. Another nice touch is to glue a piece of felt to the bottom of the tree to keep it soft for any surface. You can also make these trees in any color or mix of colors you'd like to make it as personalized as you'd like or make it fit any color scheme. Have fun and Happy Holidays!
