Heartburn and Indigestion Home Remedies

If you suffer from gas, bloating, heartburn, and indigestion, and you’re tired of chewing antacids then try these helpful hints!!

Feast on Fruits, Veggies and Grains- Switch to a diet that is high in fiber and complex carbs, like veggies, fruits and grains. These foods will speed up the digestion process and empty your stomach faster (note: avoid citrus fruits and tomato).

Eat Small Meals- Instead of eating 3 large meals a day, eat small meals about 5-6 times a day. Chew your food slowly and carefully.

Avoid Problem Foods- Fried, spicy or fatty foods can send your stomach acid into overtime! Other problematic foods include:

Lemonade, citrus fruits (especially grapefruit), alcoholic beverages (including wine), milk, and most tomato products.

Also avoid foods that tend to produce more gas like beans, cucumbers, cabbage turnips and onions.

Chew a Stick of Gum- Yes, you can chew your way out of the discomfort and even avoid it. Research has showed that if you chew a stick of gum after meals the saliva produced counteracts with the acids in your stomach. The result: no acid indigestion! Just be sure it’s sugar free.

Brush it Off- Dr. Basil Rodansky of Lincoln Park, Michigan offers this simple home remedy for easing adult heartburn:

Take 1-2 tsp. of mentholated toothpaste followed by warm water or tea. Don’t use the kind that contains baking soda or peroxide; they can increase the acid level in your stomach.

This is just a little useful information and is not intended to be medical advice. If you have a chronic case then you probably need to see a doctor.
