or Search Engine Absurdities
Back story: About forty years ago there was a rather steamy sexy film (well, for that time period anyway. Upon release it got an X rating, but has now been down-graded, or is that up-graded, to NC-17) that starred Marlon Brando (you know, the GodFather guy) called Last Tango In Paris . The film was about a widowed, middle-aged, American hotelier that takes off to Paris after his wife's suicide and meets a younger woman. They have a brief and intense affair just before she is to marry another man. In the end, she shoots and kills him ... but not before the "butter " scene. Go rent the movie if you want to know more about it, or that, or whatever.
About a decade or so later, Jimmy Buffett (you know, the Margaritaville Hamburger in Paradise guy!) wrote a song called Last Mango In Paris . Which Jimmy and the Coral Reefer Band have played and sang to audiences (and with the whole audience singing along, as they tend to do to all of Jimmy's songs, sometimes even drowning out the band...) for the past 25 or so years. Last Mango in Paris is a story about a, well, single (probably divorced), middle-aged guy that is sitting at a pub on the wharf listening to the bartender's tales about floating around the world meeting a bunch of wild characters, including a "third-world woman with a pistol in each hand ". And he tells Jimmy ..er.. the guy sitting at the bar:
"I ate the last mango in Paris
Took the last plane out of Saigon
Took the first fast boat to China
There's still so much to be done!"
... and then there is Paris! No, not the City of Lights in France! The other "Paris" - you know, the one that causes trouble and gets her face plastered onto all the tabloids - Paris Hilton! She's not a middle-aged guy, and I don't know if she carries a gun, much less one in each hand, but I do know she's the great-granddaughter of Conrad Hilton, the once rich and famous hotelier who built the Hilton Hotel empire. She is also known for a real sloppy-eating hamburger commercial, and for posting a "sex" tape online. Last I heard she had been banned from Las Vegas, or at least from the hoity-toity Vegas hotel penthouses and A-list nightclubs and party palaces she once frequented after being busted for cocaine. So then again, she might be hanging out in France, but I thought they took away her passport ... shrug.
So ... you're sitting there reading all this background information and wondering what the heck this all has to do with search engines and how can I ever tie all this mess into a neat and tidy little bundle ... ???
Well, as you can see, I have found ways to link from one to next and backwards and crossways and ... I am not even a search engine (Bonnie, did you hear that? (-;). But, while I was able to connect the fuzzy logic and faint dots with some vague and crookedly drawn lines ... even I have to admit the linkage above is extremely convoluted at best! How does this search go from two middle-aged men and a couple women with guns, some extra-sloppy culinary scenes, get from Paris France to Vegas, L.A. and beyond ... and then divert from tango's and mangoes to end up with a degenerate socialite?!?!?
Well, you'll have to click below and see for yourself. It all begins with a simple image search on Google ... for a ... mango! I have no idea why the heck Google decided to return pics and articles about "Paris Hilton" when I searched on this image of a pile of pale yellow mangoes!?!?!
