How To Stop Being Shy
My speech impediment caused me to be overly shy for almost my whole childhood. I was afraid to talk to most people, because I didn't want them to ask me “oh, what kind of accent do you have”. I barely had any friends in 8th grade, my social life was terrible. I spent
Step 1: Discover Why You're Shy And Fix It
If you've been shy your whole life then you can go ahead and skip this step, because you're probably naturally shy. You really need to look into why you're shy and try to fix the main issue yourself. This will be the vaguest step on the list. My speech impediment caused me to be shy. After I went to a speech pathologist and got it fixed, my confidence soared. In most cases people are shy because their self esteem or self confidence isn't very high. Why are you shy? Is it something about the way you look? Something about how you act? If you find out and still don't know how to fix it, leave a comment and I'll help you out.
Step 2: Talk To Everybody You Can Easily Converse With, But Don't
Becoming social is all about practice. You need to start talking more if you want to cure your shyness. First start by talking to everybody you can talk to, but don't. Talk to your siblings, that annoying kid that nobody likes in your class, that kid with autism who nobody talks to, and even talk to your mom and dad more. After a few months you'll notice you will have less anxiety when you talk to strangers.
Step 3: Watch A Ton Of Stand Up Comedy
Watching stand up comedy will naturally make you a more out going person. Watch an hour of stand up comedy every night instead of your usual tv show. If you don't mind spending some money, buy all of Dave Chapelles stand up videos. His videos are hysterical. Within a month you'll be slightly more outgoing and funny. However, do not rely solely on this to cure your shyness, this is more of a temporary fix so you can get out there and socialize without feeling anxious.
Step 4: Build Your Self Confidence
For most guys this means gaining some muscle. Check out StrongLift's 5x5 , the workouts only take 45 minutes three times a week. I use this and it has worked wonders for me.
For Weight loss: Read this and this Most people can't lose weight because the program they're trying to do is too much of a drastic change. My tips are not very drastic or intense.
For girls and guys: spend $50 on a nice haircut. Go to an amazing hair stylist in town and get a haircut. I have never done this, but have friends who have. Their haircuts always look amazing and the people they're trying to attract always notice as well.
Buy Some new clothes next time you decide to go out. Having something nice to wear will immediately boost your self confidence.
Step 5: Go Out!
By now you need to break out of your comfort zone. If you never go out, invite two of your friends who you have never been with outside of school to go to a theme park or see a movie. Try and do something exciting like going to a club or going to a medieval festival. If you don't have any friends to invite then go do something with your family! This will still help you become a more outgoing person as long as you're talking to them and to strangers the whole time.
