Dark hair falls down loose
and scatters pale pearls
And red silk falls with it
in soft bloody swirls

Briar Rose dances with
her lover Rose Red.
The Red Riding Hood Girl
may soon be dead.

Born to a queen, born in a wood
Ebony hair and bloodred lips
Heart of ice and coal black eyes
white snow breasts and fingertips

Dark shadows fall on the
white foam of the sea
and red glows the fruit
of the apple tree,

A blood ember glows bright
from the burnt blackened charcoal
The shadowed witch holds tight
to her poisoned red apple

Along comes a great bear,
his teeth shining white
and the wolf comes prowling
in the dark of the night

Crimson drops scatter
bright across the snow
and a red carpet leads
to an ebony throne

A red ruby flashes from
a black-gloved hand
The silver ring forms a
glowing white band

White beams of moonlight
duel with bloody red Mars
And a Rose falls at midnight
Alone under the stars

Red flames are licking
at the ebony throne
The black marble dais
stands in the snow alone.

Oh Snow White so sweet
here's a tale that's true
In your red, black and white,
you brought death with you.

This was inspired by thinking up names and words for my page of Red, Black and White Paintings: Snow Blood and Midnight - which got me thinking about the non-Disney version of Snow White, with the skin white as snow, lips red as blood, hair black as ebony...

It's not polished or perfect, but it dragged me out of bed at 2am to find a pen and flew out in dark ink on a piece of scrap paper.

The fairytales crept in there - Snow White and Rose Red and their bear, the traditional Snow White and her witch and the apple, Red Riding Hood and the wolf, Briar Rose.... a lot of similar themes there.

Haha! I'm in a poetry mood again! BEWARE. Maybe I should finish Glass Feathers
