The BMW in India
BMW is a famous name in India. It rivals Mercedes and the Indian people have a love for this German car. One of the reasons for the popularity of the BMW is that it is a byword for reliability and luxury. Owning a BMW definitely places the Indian owner one up on owners of other cars.To further capture the market and make a deeper penetration the BMW Company has launched 3 models for the common Indian. The German auto giant launched the much awaited compact sports utility cars with price ranges from Rs 22 laky to Rs 29 lakh (Ex Show room, Delhi). The cars have been launched in both diesel and petrol variants. These are thus the lowest priced BMW cars so far introduced in India. The launch of these cars has had a catalytic effect on the Indian buyers. The Indian who like good and efficient luxury cars have flocked to book the cars. In just a few days over 1000 cars were booked in Delhi alone and for the next 3 months the assembly lines will be choked to supply these cars. BMW chief in India Andreas Chaaf opined that the launch of these cars was a strategic decision to cater to demand at the lower end of the spectrum. Hence the launch of these models.BMW has certainly upstaged all other luxury car makers including its cousin Mercedes Benz and is presently the largest selling premier car maker in India. The BMW Company has been following an aggressive sales pitch and the result is there for all to see. The sale of the BMW cars have gone up by 60% and certainly the other luxury car dealers will be envious. This year BMW sold over 5000 cars for the period Jan-Nov and during the entire last year the BMW sales were pegged at 3300 units approximately. This surge in sales is a feather in the cap of BMW and its marketing plans. The BMW launched has a 2 liter engine under its hood and is slated to achieve 11.25 km to a liter of petrol. The diesel version is likely to achieve 15.24 km to a liter. BMW will assemble the car at their plant at Chennai. The manufacturing capacity of the plant is increased to cater to the greater demand. BMW hopes to raise their production levels to 8000 cars and that will be no mean achievement
