How To Make A Mock Apple Pie
For a non apple growing country, apples can be quiet expensive in the market. Prices even vary from its kind. So here is a Mock Apple Pie using Chayote instead of apples.
Chayote also known christophene, vegetable pear, mirliton, alligatorpearcomes from the gourd family.
What you need:
5-6 medium chayote
2 cups sugar
5 tablespoon flour
¾ cup flour
1 heaping teaspoon of citric acid
1 teaspoon cinnamon
¼ teaspoon nutmeg
Dash of salt
What to do:
Peel the chayote and slice them into small pieces. Take a pot and boil them until cooked. Do not overcook them otherwise they will be too soft and mushy. Set aside
Mixed together 1 ½ cup sugar, 5 tablespoon flour, 1 heaping teaspoon of citric acid, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, ¼ teaspoon nutmeg and a dash of salt. Then combine them with the cooked chayote.
In a 9 inch pie pan with pie crust, pour in the chayote mixture. Set aside
Mixed together ½ cup of sugar and ¾ cup of flour, then add 1/3 cup of Margarine. Mixed them well together then sprinkle it over the chayote mixed on the pie pan. Bake them at 400 degrees for about 40 minutes.
