HUMAN VALUES.
YOU HAVE A DUTY TO RESPECT YOUR ELDERS.
You must do something the first time you are asked to do it.
Don’t wait for the person to repeat it a second time.
In case you have not heard properly, ask for clarifications and act as soon as possible.
It may come from your parents.
It may come from your teachers.
It may come from your elders.
Or it may come from someone under whom you are working.
You must never ignore what they are saying.
You must not defy their authority.
If the person has to repeat a second or third time for you to act, then clearly you don’t owe that person any respect.
Or you have no interest in the matter.
Or you don’t care what is being said.
There are many children whose parents have to say things several times to them and still they don’t listen.
This means they don’t owe any respect to their parents and they have no gratitude for what their parents have done for them.
Whatever be your age;
Even if you are no longer a minor;
Even if you 60 years old or above.
If your parents ask you to do something, you must execute it as soon as you can.
You have to do it for your own personal satisfaction, or for your own good, or for the harmony of the family.
It is your duty towards your parents.
You are not doing them a favor.
You will be doing a big mistake if you don’t do it.
You may be climbing the spiritual ladder of life.
But if you don’t do your duty towards your parents, it means that you are not putting in practice what is more important.
Instead you are looking after trivial matters, things that are of personal interest to you and things that come out of your own selfishness.
You want others to do things for you and you are in a hurry to achieve your own personal ambitions.
You take interest in only your ambition but not in your duty.
And if someone has not done something you have asked, you will reproach him.
Even if that person is elder to you.
Follow this advice.
Respect your parents and respect those elder to you.
And when they ask you to do something, do it.
It may be the last thing you are doing for them.
But by doing it, you will receive lots of blessings.
You will never be able to pay back what your parents have done for you.
Therefore, once you are asked to do something, don’t hesitate and do it as fast as you can.
Don’t wait for the person to repeat it.
