Yarn Review of Bernat Satin

Bernat satin is a beautiful yarn that not only is fun and easy to work with, but it is also very beautiful once it is worked up. The yarn is a medium weight, which helps to contribute to a soft and drapeable fabric.

This yarn is suitable for afghans, hats and scarves, hooded scarves, fingerless gloves, legwarmers, and many other items. The yarn is durable and has a nice satiny touch to it, which makes it nice for wearables. However, it does not contribute to a very stretchy fabric, and therefore, you might want to opt for a different yarn if stretch is what you are looking for.

Also, if you are a complete beginner, you might want to hold off with this yarn because the smooth texture of it can cause the stitches to become looser than what you want them to be.

Another small downfall of the yarn is that it fuzzes easy even as you are working with it. You definitely don’t want to rip this yarn out if you don’t have to. The fabric is still very nice though, even after washing as you can use a fuzz remover to remove any unwanted fuzzies. When washing the yarn, it is recommended that you wash and dry it at the delicate setting. Bleaching, ironing and dry cleaning is not recommended for this yarn.

According to their website, Bernat Satin is available in 47 different colors, including both solids and ombres. The ombres are a bit more expensive, but I’m sure that more work goes into making them.

As with most yarns, bernat satin is a suitable yarn for both crocheting and knitting. And even though you can use a number of hooks and knitting needles for this yarn, the standard recommendation for it is an H/8-5.00MM crochet hook or knitting needle.

Bernat is a very popular brand, and you can find their yarns in just about all stores, including Walmart, Zellers, Len’s Mill, Michaels and others. Although not all stores carry all their yarns, I have seen the Satin in most of my local yarn stores. And if you can’t find the yarn at your local store, you can always go shopping online at Ebay or Amazon. The prices for the yarn might vary from store to store, but in general, it is a very economic yarn and goes a long way.
