Tis the Season
A Christmas market , is also known as Christkindlmarkt , Christkindlesmarkt , Christkindlmarket , and Weihnachtsmarkt , They are street market s associated with the celebration of Christmas during the four weeks of Advent .

Over the Thanksgiving weekend my family and a few friends travled to Germany to experience some Kristkringle Markets. The historic market square in Mainz was the first market we visited and it was a blaze of lights.

The air was scented with a Christmassy mixture of roast almonds, gingerbread, hot chestnuts and Gluhwein.

We let ourselves become enchanted by this pre-Christmas atmosphere. On our visit through Mainz Christmas Market, the stress and hectic pace of everyday life was quickly forgotten.

We saunterd leisurely past festively decorated stands, collecting many fine Christmas presents for my family in passing. From home-made Advent garlands and straw stars, to Christmas tree decorations, wooden toys, carvings, ceramics, candles and much more. My family I am sure will be thrilled with the selections we purchased for their gifts.

We loved the atmosphere with the imposing back-drop of the over thousand year old Cathedral of St. Martin, showmen, and craftsmen who offerd Christmas specialities and original presents.
