Vampires and Zombies According to Seth Grahame-Smith
This past weekend, Missy and I were lucky enough to travel down to Springfield, Illinois to meet Seth Grahame-Smith at a book reading/discussion and signing being hosted at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library. If you have been following us here at The Opening Lines, you know that Seth Grahame Smith just published Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (ALVH), a year after the hit that was Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (PPZ).
We had a lot of fun on our day trip, had the chance to do a little sightseeing and then attend the discussion. The trip was worth it! Seth Graham-Smith (SGS) is super funny, candid and self-deprecating, which makes for good conversation.
I know I have said it on here before, but zombies and vampires are not for me. With all the vampire mania that is going on, I have done a really good job of ignoring most of it. Don't think that I am closed minded or anything, but instead it has to do with the fact that I am scared poopless of anything and everything scary and zombies and vampires fit right into that category.
Why then, would I seek out reading material that would potentially scare me, right?
So, I haven't. PPZ is the first zombie anything I have read or watched. I tried watching one of those zombie movies afterwards, Halloween I think, and it turned into a scare Sophie night rather than anyone watching the movie. Same thing with Vampires, ALVH was the first vampire book I got through.
During the discussion, SGS basically schooled everyone on everything Vampire and Zombies and for me it was an entertaining lesson (because I really do not know anything about the creatures).
So, I thought we would share; Vampires and Zombies, according to SGS:
- Vampires do not sparkle.
- No need to fear zombies, because they are dead, slow and stupid.
- If you had to choose to be either, be a vampire; the superpowers are amazing.
- It's all about Team Henry now!
- PPZ did not entirely portray zombies in a real light. Elizabeth would not have actually needed all those fighting skills because of the fact that zombies are so slow to react and move (the carriage scene, totally would never happen).
- It's time to stop kissing vampires and start killing them.
We have a giveaway from our trip down to Springfield to share with you all today. Going to get it posted here in just a minute!
