One minute into, Jane Bites Back , and I was laughing my head off. Basically, this is the story of Jane Austen in modern times, only she is not transported here or anything like she is in other spin-offs.  In Michael Thomas Ford's version, Jane is a vampire that has been alive for two hundred years, only she has led a secret life and no one knows she is living among them.


You realize that Jane the bookstore owner is Jane Austen as you read along, and it is really funny to read what she might think of all of us now, were she really around. I can see how it would get frustrating though, and it does get frustrating for Jane. Austen, the Vampire, has to deal with watching writers around her make money off her name when she can't even sell a manuscript of her own.  


Honestly, there are so many Jane Austen spin-offs being published everyday, and even though this is another one of them, it kind of makes fun of them. I really liked the way it started though, and I do wish it was a little longer.  Some parts of the story line do seem a little silly, and ridiculous, but for the most part it was neat seeing Jane in a present day situation living as a modern woman.  


I also thought it was fun to see her dispose of people who drove her nuts, but that's an entirely different story. Anyway, I thought this was an okay read and Sophie agrees with me for the most part. It could have been a lot better and I was hoping it would be after the good beginning. 

I would have liked to see more flashbacks or more of Austen as she was when she wrote the books, only because there are a few snippets offered.  In that sense it was a let down and I think most Austen fans would be disappointed with it (Sophie and I try not to be too picky, especially after PPZ). This would definitely appeal to the YA crowd who have a thing for vampires though.
