Paying much too much
There was a couple who live across the road from us a few years back. They came to visit often. Many times it was to use the phone. They had a prepaid cell phone and often were out of minutes.
The man would usually talked to us while his wife used the phone. One day he said, "We just bought a washing machine." He handed me the sales papers.
The machine came from a rental company. I could not believe it. I do not remember the break down on the cost of the machine and different finance charges. It was a USED washing machine. They were to pay by the month. The total of the payments was between $1,200 and $1,300. I almost dropped.
Without calling him dumb or stupid I tried to explain that it was a rip off. I could not tell at the time if he believed me or not. About a week later he had bought a washing machine somewhere else and told the first company to pick their machine up. I believe he said the got a used machine for $100 cash.
I'm not familiar with rental companies, but if you do business with one, be careful.
