Bing, Google and DuckDuckGo

Bing has followed up on the result of an ethnographic search on the study habits and tastes of its users. The principal UX manager, Michael Kroll, announced in a blog post that Bing was told many people came to them to find the name of “the movie with Tom Cruise and a unicorn” only to get lost for days clicking around the homepage image.

Then Bing decided to run a test to discourage this “behavior of exploration and discovery.” So we won’t be seeing anything that would encourage us to get lost in a big picture, it will be displaying bland images for a while.

Google, which isn’t the only search engine in the world, is keeping busy with the many sites and URLs competing for its page ranking. Despite the traffic, it still allows you to access its billions of web pages.

The popular Google features include: everyday essentials, choosing keywords, local search, reference tools, search by numbers, trip planning, and query refinements. We can use the choosing keywords features to search for the synonyms (with a tilde sign), definitions from the dictionaries (using the word “define”) and the automatic spell checker (did you mean “spellchecker”) options.

Meanwhile, DuckDuckGo is the one you want if you don’t want to be tracked.
