Prevent Dust during a Remodeling Project

Are you getting ready for a home remodeling project? If so, it can be a messy job. This is because a home remodeling process can mean construction dust and debris making its way in every nook and cranny of your home. Well, you can prevent them from damaging your home with some easy tips. Simultaneously, it will be easier for you to protect your home till next remodeling project. Let us explore some of the tips and ways to make them work effectively.

You may require many products and materials to accomplish your remodeling project. But the most useful products are protective products. These products are quite effective in protecting expensive items inside your interior.

Set a dust barrier:

Airflows encourage dust to drift everywhere inside your interior. Stopping airflow appears to be the key to preventing dust. Well, a regular loose plastic curtain hung with some strips of tape cannot offer you the right solution to this problem. A dust barrier as airtight as possible can have the only answer. So, create a tight dust barrier where the remodeling work is not going on. Taping the top and sides of the dust barrier on the wall is quite easier than taping them to the wood work. Sometimes, taping the bottom edge of the barrier is difficult, so just lay a board across it. With regard to this, a light plastic with a zip opening system is fine for most jobs.

Cover ducts using plastic and tape:

Construction dust absorbed into the return air ducts can choke your furnace fitter. It can be even worse if dust particles pass through the filter. When the blower will be on, it will cover every item in your room with a blanket of dust. Simultaneously, air supply ducts can have a bigger problem too. If dusts settle inside it, they can come blasting out once your cooling or heating system turns on. You may opt for closing the damper on a supply register; it cannot be as effective as plastic and UV masking tape.

Blow dust out of your window:

Use a fan to remove dust particles from inside your rooms. This will help you keep dust level down and create a little vacuum inside the workspace. This way, if the dust barrier has gaps in it, it will let air flow inside the workspace. Whatever it is, dust-stricken air cannot make its way to surrounding spaces. This is quite effective that for a small project, you do not even need a dust barrier. Just close the large gaps around the fan using plastic and cardboard to prevent the dust getting back inside.

Avoid cheap tapes:

In order to prevent dusts from spreading all over your home, you need an important item and that is a quality tape. Medium-adhesion tapes are the best one for most jobs.  You can find many good tapes from a nearby hardware store.  Online home improvement stores also offer good services for tapes. Once your project is over, remove the tape as soon as possible; or else it will stick to the paint and will not come off easily. If you want the tape to come off easily, go for a masking tape. This tape stays in place only for 14 days.

Vacuum your workspace:

If you get an exhaust stream to remove dust, it will prove to be a mistake. This is because it raises more dust than vacuum cleaner does and creates a dust cloud. Well, this problem can be solved with an extra vacuum hose. Attach a hose to the exhaust point and drop it outside the window. You can able to remove dust particles easily.

Protect wood stairs:

During remodeling project, protecting wood stairs is quite an important task. This is because dirt and dust can dent and scratch the surface of the wood stairs. But, you should not use any material that can cause slip and trip. Rosin paper can be a better solution for use on the surface of the stairs. Put these papers over the edges of the stairs and tape them securely. If there is a carpet over the stairs, use a drop cloth over it. Put it in place with small nails.

Use cardboard to protect door jambs:

During a remodeling project, door and jambs tend to take a beating. Removing them is the best way. But, at the same time, if it is not practical; you can use cardboard to cover them.

Use these protective products during the remodeling project and protect your interior items.
