Tropical Rainforest Biomes Short Summary

A rainforest has year-round warmth and an average of 125 to 660cm of rainfall yearly. The climate’s temperature normally stays between 20 and 34 degrees Celsius, with an average humidity of 77% to 88%. Almost all rainforests are located within 5 degrees of the equator, north or south.

Scientists estimate that half of the world’s animals and plants inhabit rainforests. Common plants are Bengal bamboo, bougainvillea, curare (used in medicine), coconut trees, durian, jambu, kapok trees, strangler figs and tualang. Most of these are located in the Amazon of South America.

Rainforests include exotic animals such as the Dawn Bat or the Bengal Tiger. The climate in a rainforest is ideal for these animals because of its high temperatures and frequent rainfall. There are also the stereotypical rainforest animals such as the Africa forest elephant, chimpanzees and King Cobras. The dominance of the rainforest is probably the Bengal Tiger as it is a tertiary consumer, however the Africa forest elephant  is the largest animal and therefore is not threatened by anything.
