Frequent Urination in Women

Are there days when you almost don’t make it to the bathroom in time? Do you have that sudden urge to go that came on you out of nowhere? Is this a sign of  ageing or maybe there is something seriously wrong with you? Let’s see if we can  help break down your concerns and get to the bottom of what is commonly called  frequent urination ”.

Most people go to the bathroom between four and eight times a day. If you are headed in that direction more than that or if you need to get up in the middle of  the night to make a trip these could be underlying symptoms of something more  serious, or not.

What Are Some Causes Of Frequent Urination?

There are several things that could be causing you to experience frequent urination. One of the most common reasons to have frequent urination is a  urinary tract infection and women are more susceptible to these than men. Signs  of a UTI are fever, pain and uneasiness in the stomach area and of course, the  urge to urinate more than normal. Another common symptom is a burning  sensation when urinating.

Diabetes:One of the first signs of diabetes anybody will tell you to watch out for is havingto go to the bathroom a lot. This is a symptom for Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes. When this occurs the body is trying to get rid of excess sugars by passing it inthe urine.

Pregnancy:   Any woman who has ever been pregnant can tell you that when that baby  presses on your bladder you have got to go a lot. If you are pregnant frequent  urination is just one of those things you have to live with. No medical issue here.

Prostate Issues:  Most people relate prostate problems with men. Women do have a similar organ  called the Skene’s gland but its location will not affect the bladder as a man’s  prostate gland does.

Interstitial Cystitis:  No one really knows what causes this disorder but it is common in women and  not so much in men. Interstitial cystitis is a chronic inflammation of the bladder  walls which then causes pain in the pubic area. Frequent urination is also a  symptom.

Diuretic Use:  People with high blood pressure are frequently prescribed diuretic medication.  These pills are also helpful in getting rid of excessive fluids in the body,  especially in the kidneys, that may build up over time. As you can imagine,  taking these drugs will lead to more frequent urination.

If You Have Had A Stroke or Other Nervous Disorders:  Nerves extend throughout your body and if they have been damaged by stroke or  other neurological diseases the bladder will more than likely be affected leading  to sudden needs to get to a bathroom.

There are other possible causes of frequent urination but they are not as common  as the ones listed above. They might include radiation treatments, bladder  cancer or bladder dysfunction.
