Is This Really A Great Value

Is This Really A Great Value

I'm a big comparison shopper, especially in these days of prices going up and quantity and quality going down.

I'm not against purchasing store brand or 'no-name' brand items on certain products. For example, it doesn't really matter to me if my canned corn or beans are store brand, no-frills brand or the pricier name brands.  But some items, I do have brand favorites.

These days, I shake my head at the prices of some of my favorite brands and just do without.  It has to be that way sometimes.  My latest dilema came in the form of breakfast sausage patties.

For breakfast sausage, I think I have tried just about every variety there is out there. Jimmy Deans is by far our favorite, but it is sometimes out of my budget.  Armour and Banquet do make a decent breakfast sausage product. When I was shopping in Walmart last week, I wanted to pick up some sausage patties and fix homemade sausage patties and eggs for the family one day.

While looking at my choices, I was a tad upset by the fact that Walmart had more of their own "Great Value" brand than any others.  I did not see any other brand of pattie type sausage that I was willing to buy, and hesitated a bit before deciding that I'd take the chance and purchase one bag and see how good it was.

As far as being a good value, it was. You get 2 lbs. (about 18 pcs.) for $4.16, which is a decent purchase. A good amount less than the Jimmy Deans patties that I had a few left in the freezer.    When I decided to use them one day, I found out that I did not have a 'good' value, but indeed a Great Value as the name claimed.

When I opened the package, I was very surprised at the size of the patty and now understood why for two pounds of sausage, you were only getting about 18 servings.

The sausage on the top is Jimmy Deans.  No wonder two is considered a serving compared to one of the Great Value brand.  Look at the size difference!

Then, in order to decide which sausage would make it to the plates for the meal, I compared them to the size of the rolls on which they would be served. These are also purchased in Walmart in their bakery section.

I decided to go with the Great Value brand.

The sausages cooked up in the microwave in the time the package said it would.

The taste?  Very, very good.  I was truly surprised! They were tasty and of very good quality.  You can see they also fit very nicely on the buns.

This is an excellent store brand product.  It came in this the original Pork Sausage patty, and there are also Beef Breakfast Sausage and Pork Sausage with Maple varieties.

I highly recommend purchasing this variety of breakfast sausage product if you are a Walmart shopper.  It is a Great Value, and it surprised me by being such a tasty, quality one as well.
