RedGage Traveling Showcase 20

RedGage Traveling Showcase 20

RedGage Traveling Showcase #20 PotPieGirl

We are off to visit the famous PotPieGirl (Jennifer) and we can't wait to interview her.  Jennifer has created the One Week Marketing Plan and has an impressive following online.  PotPieGirl provides a step-by-step guide to making money online by using free methods and Affiliate Marketing.  Her publications and products receive excellent reviews, so we decided to ask her a few questions.

Maybe Jennifer will whip up some of her special 'Heart Attack Mac N Cheese' for lunch while she gives us some advice on how to make money online.  PotPieGirl 's intelligent analysis of Internet marketing, mixed with her amazing sense of humor, makes the research enjoyable.  For all of the RedGagers who are looking for long term success online, we recommend checking out PotPieGirl!  She has some encouraging words of wisdom...

PotPieGirl is ________ a quirky little woman who has an overwhelming need to empower others, an unshakable belief in the power of the underdog, and an uncanny ability to break things that have been tagged as "un-breakable" (it's a gift...haha!)

Home is where __________my pillow is. It took me years to get my pillow just right...and I don't share. I also take it just about anywhere I plan to be for more than 2 nights. Home is also where ever my wonderful husband, Lee, is. It took us years to get us "just right" - and we don't share. I also take him anywhere I plan to be for more than 2 nights!

What gave you the idea to start writing about making money at home and online?
I was doing it myself. One day I realized that the things I was learning could help others or even simply inspire them to try internet marketing.

How did you get from blogging to an eBook?
Just another step along the way =) One day, on my PotPieGirl.com blog, I asked my readers if they'd like to know how I was using free websites to make money with Clickbank. Not only did they want to know, they told me to sell it.

So, I did!

Where do you come up with the ideas for your posts?
By listening to others. The "secret" to online marketing is not in the product... it's in the people. If you give people want they want and the info they are searching for, the rewards are great.

Your One Week Marketing Plan and your 6StepNicheSites have been very popular.
Thank you! I'm very proud of both! They are both sites *I* wish I had found when I was first learning all this "make money online" mumbo jumbo!

How long did it take before you started seeing your efforts pay off online?
It took awhile - mainly because I was CLUELESS as to what I was doing. The greatest compliments I have received about One Week Marketing are the ones where people are so RELIEVED to finally have found something that cuts through the fog of confusion and finally gives them an actionable plan of action to follow each day.

My motto is:
"If you're willing to do for a year what others won't, you can spend a lifetime doing what others can't"

I believe in this firmly. In fact, I am walking, talking, golfing proof of it. The 2% or so of online marketers that are willing to do the hard work that the other 98% won't do are the ones that will see long-term success online.

I worked really, really hard for a year. I also took a paid internship position when the money wasn't coming in to pay my bills from my own efforts while I was learning. A 16-18 hour work day was very common for me...and still is.

How did you get so much exposure?
I talk a lot! haha!

In all seriousness, I think it was my desire to help as many as I humanly could mixed with delivering solid content that people wanted. It all grew from there.

If you had to listen to one album on repeat, over and over, what would it be?
Wow, good question!

And do people say, "Album" anymore? I know I say that word to my kids and they look at me like I've lost my mind.

I'm an 80's girl at heart.... rock, power ballads.... I remember listening to a .38 Special cassette over and over while driving back and forth to college. I don't think I'll ever tire of "Wild Eyed Southern Boys".

I also love Tim McGraw and Sister Hazel so any of those and I'd be quite content.

One place you would love to go?
I'm a golfer so my list of places includes some of the famous golf courses of the world. I'd also love to get to Hawaii some day... it all looks so beautiful.

Your favorite website is?

Way too many to choose one. Oh wait, I think you want me to say RedGage.com, right? hahahaha!

You think that the best resources for making money online are….
Your brain.

There are no magic solutions, no get rich quick plans....it's all a matter of time, good content, getting your content found, and giving the reader what they want.

The magic ingredient is your brain. You need to sit back for a moment and think about WHO you are talking to... who they are, what their problems are... and how you can help them.

The hardest part of being a marketer is the tendency we have to forget to be a consumer, too. We know what WE want....other folks want the same thing from us.

One thing that is always in your refrigerator?
Just ONE thing? Ok.... I love Dr Pepper. I used to be a Coke drinker until I learned that Coke can remove rust from metal and that kinda grossed me out. Now, I'm a Pepper =)

Is there anyone or anything that you would give credit to for introducing you to marketing online?
Absolutely! They two guys I worked for before beginning online marketing (Jason and Brad). They were not only a huge catalyst for me learning how all this works, they still serve as my mentors and a constant source of inspiration.

When I have a good day, I thank them. When I have a bad day, I blame them ;)

Take away your computer and your phone- what are you doing?
Golfing, lovin' on my kids, hanging with my hubby....or, doing laundry (yuck).

Top three movies:
Another tough one!

Let's see... now don't laugh, but I have always loved Jerry McGuire ("You had me at hello" or "Help Me help YOU" )

I also loved "The NoteBook" - wow, what a tear-jerker!

Also, "We Are Marshall". Above being a HUGE Matthew McConaughey fan, the movie was so amazing (remember me and my belief in the underdog?). I also recently had the pleasure of meeting a former student from Marshall who was there through that whole experience. Hearing the real story from someone who was there was amazing and very touching.

Top three books:
I read way too much to isolate this to three, but I'll give it a whirl.

"Tribes" by Seth Godin was very influential to me. "The Five Love Languages" was an important read to me. It taught me how different people need different things in order to feel loved. Oddly, the book's lessons carried over to my marketing style, too.

Another is "The Greatest Networker in the World/Conversations with the Greatest Networker" was a double book that really surprised me. It caused a lot of paradigm shifts in my thinking.

Top three things you must do in your lifetime:

1. Play golf at Augusta National Golf Course (it's a pipe dream tho... but it's ok to dream!)

2. Hold my future grandchildren... oh, I can't wait!

3. Finish doing laundry (right, like THAT will ever happen!)

Your other personal websites or where you sell your work:
PotPieGirl.com
OneWeekMarketing.com
6StepNicheSites.com

and I offer a free "How to Squidoo" guide here:

Any tips to newbie string to make money online?
Yes! DON'T GIVE UP! You ARE plenty smart enough to do this. It will not happen overnight, but it will happen if you keep plugging away at it.

You offer free software on your website, which ones are your favorite?
Oh my, there are so many cool free tools and applications out there... how to choose?

In order to not offend anyone, I am going to say, "Redgage is my favorite free site"!
(do I get a gold star for that?)

Any more projects or books in the pipeline?
I am ALWAYS testing and working on things. I have over 100 websites of my own and countless free web pages online. When I find something cool, I share it.

How many hours a day are you NOT online? Do you have to give yourself limits?
I have started to seriously work on my time management. After working so hard and for so many hours a day for the last 2+ years, I realize that things are working for me and it's ok to step back now and then. It's still very rare for me to take a complete day off and away from the computer....but I'm getting better at it.

What would you like to see on RedGage? Features, tools, etc?
I think RedGage is such a great idea for a social bookmarking site. Most other sites frown upon submitting your own content and it makes it tough for the "real folks" to get back links and exposure for our online content. The fact that you can make some free money for links to your content is icing on the cake!

I'd like to see a taskbar option where I could just click it to submit my content while on my web page as opposed to having to log in and do it all on site here - but that's just an idea.

I've been very impressed with how y'all have handled the quirks and growing pains of a new site, so I'll let y'all continue before I drop too many ideas into the suggestion box.

Meal of a lifetime is what? With?
Oh honey, I am a SERIOUS carb-aholic! I love homemade pot roast, home made mashed potatoes and gravy, and my homemade Mac and Cheese (which we have dubbed "heart attack Mac" because I LOAD the butter and cheese in it!)

....and I'd be eating it with my family. Trying to get four kids, a daughter-in-law, AND my hubby all at the table at one time takes an act of divine power. I cherish the moments when it all comes together for us.

Any hidden talents?
Hahhahahahaha! Uhhhhhhhhh..... My hubby says I have this odd talent of getting complete strangers to tell me anything - without even being asked. He used to tease me and tell me that I had a tattoo on my forehead that said "Please Tell Me" that everyone could see except me.

I also retained odd knowledge from my fast food worker days... french fries in a fryer are done when they float.

I have also helped raise broiler chickens in my life...and helped birth a few calves.

I'm also a pretty decent Texas Hold 'Em player and love to play in tournaments like the WSOP.

Not sure how much of any of the above could be considered a "talent" - but they are weird facts about PotPieGirl.

Tell us a bit. Anything. We're passing off the talking stick. Go....
The first and only person that needs to believe in what you're doing when learning internet marketing is YOU. I also can't stress enough how much you need to KNOW that you can believe in YOURSELF.

I get too many emails from people telling me that they must be "too stupid" to make internet marketing work for them - and it saddens me to no end.

There are too many folks out there these days that even an extra $100 a month into their household could make a world of difference. You already have a computer...you already have an internet connection - why not work with what you have right in front of you?

Don't let anyone tell you that you CAN'T.

You CAN do it... I know you can!

Thank you for having me! I have enjoyed this interview immensely!
